Petra
Our cousin from Switzerland
My name is Petra Doris Lonien and I was born in 1974. My dad, Guenther Peter Lonien (b. 1940 - d. 1980) was brother to Wolfgang's, Willi's, Silvia's and Rolf's dad.
When Mitchie, Wolfgang's wife, met me for the first time, she came to the conclusion that I was a rather untypical Lonien as I don't smoke, I don't drink coffee and I don't like cars....
Even though I dislike cars (same goes for buses, trucks and don't get me started on coaches!!!) fuel is running through my veins.... How come? I am the aviation person in the family. I joined Swissair in 2000 as a Revenue Manager for Far East and Northern Europe. Sadly Swissair had to ground its fleet on 2 October 2001, then resumed some of its service until 31 March 2002,- which was my last day at work for the airline.
After a very short intermezzo, working in the Performance Management department of a credit card company, I wanted to go back to the aviation industry (once infected with the aviation virus....). I joined Unique, the managing company of Zurich airport, in February 2003. First in the Operations Planning department and in May 2004 I joined Airport Steering. As the name implies Airport Steering is indeed 'steering' the airport in its daily business which means from 5.00 am - midnight (sometimes later). It sometimes is quiet - but often very hectic.
As of 01 October 2004 I will have two jobs. 50% as a Duty Manager Airport Steering and 50% will be spent on Operational Quality and Punctuality Management. I am very much looking forward to this new challenge.
As for my hobbies - surprise, surprise - I do like to travel a lot (some of my holiday pics from this year can actually be found on this homepage). I just love reading, watching movies (got a nice DVD collection at home - quite a few Bollywood movies....), good food and music (Opera, Pop, Rock, Classical music in general and: QUEEN!!)
